Welcome to the parish of Ellesmere Port

We are a church community meeting in two buildings (St Thomas, Ellesmere Port and St Lawrence, Stoak), aiming through our worship, witness and community service to put into practice our mission statement: ‘Christ in the Centre of the Church; the Church at the Centre of the Community’.

Our services of worship include traditional Anglican and more family focussed, informal services, with an emphasis on the celebration of Holy Communion.

We encourage members to belong to cell groups, which are for adults, young people and children. We support two church schools, primary and secondary, and are active in both through assemblies, classroom support and serving on their governing bodies.

St Thomas church has a coffee lounge, a small chapel and an upper room, as well as a church hall situated in its grounds. We make these rooms available for hire and encourage community and private use.

Matthew 23:8

“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Master and you are all brothers.”

Our church is made up of people of all ages and occupations.

Our Story

St Lawrence

This is an ancient site where God has been worshipped and the good news of Jesus preached for more than 700 years. As the modern congregation we seek to carry on that tradition – keeping the best of the old and taking advantage of modern technology. Our service each Sunday is at 11.00 am. This is usually a modern language Holy Communion, but on the fourth Sunday of each month we have All Age Worship and on the afternoon of the second Sunday we have a children’s service which we have called ABC.

The church is ideal for weddings and we have a good number of baptism services each month and occasional funerals. We are also part of Ellesmere Port Parish and there are a number of joint activities and groups in which people from St Lawrence play a full part.

We try to be a friendly, welcoming congregation. If you wish to join us you will be made welcome.

The Church is open every Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

St Thomas & All Saints

St Thomas and All Saints is the Anglican church in Ellesmere Port.

The present buildings dates from around 1957 though the interior has been extensively reordered. The worship area is very flexible, with seats rather than pews and a sanctuary area that can be used as a stage for concerts, school plays etc. Adjacent to the worship area is a coffee lounge.

The parish has a vision for the building being a ‘7 day a week’ resource, combining Christian worship, community activities and social events. There is rarely a day when the site is not being used, and the parish considers it a privilege to be able to share our site with various community groups. As well as the church proper, there is also a church hall, which is also used by the church and the community.

St Thomas and All Saints is situated close to the town centre, well placed to realise our vision of being a Christ centred church at the centre of our local community. It is our desire and intention to welcome all who come through our doors or onto our site with the welcoming love of Jesus, and it is our prayer that all who do come into our buildings will meet with Him here.

Our Mission

‘Christ in the Centre of the Church, The Church in the Centre of the Community’

Matthew 5:14-16

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
